My Top Tips to Losing Weight and Keeping It Off

I wanted to share a few tips that I thought you might find helpful. When I made my decision in July 2010 to make small changes in my diet, these are a few things I added/removed from my diet.
#1- Stopped drinking diet coke (June 26) and never missed it.
#2- Stopped drinking Crystal Light. When I was at WW, they let us drink it b/c it was NO points. I basically stopped drinking anything that had Aspartame in it.
#3- Just started reading labels, didn’t buy anything that had aspartame (yogurts) and high fructose corn syrup. Anything that had food coloring or preservatives in it, I avoided. Even the salmon I was buying at BJ’s had food coloring and I thought I was being good doing that.
FYI, check the wheat breads you are buying, many have HFCSyrup which I found shocking. I buy Arnold Health full grain bread.
#4- Started drinking almond milk. I am a fan now! FYI, it has more calcium and less calories than skim milk. I use 1/2 c on my oatmeal and 1/2 c in my Shakeology. I drink my shake usually midafternoon for a snack.
#5- I have oatmeal, the rougher the better, every morning, 1/2 c cooked. I also have 4-6 egg whites. Gives me a great start to the day and then I am not hungry.
#6- I add 2 tbsp of ground flaxseed and 1 tbsp of chia seeds to my oatmeal. I learned about this from a book called The Eat Clean Diet Recharged by Tosca Reno, suggested reading!
#7- I eat every 2 1/2 – 3 hours. If I am going to be out for a long time and won’t be able to grab food, I bring a p90x protein bar with me. Love them!
#8- My carbs come from grains and NOTHING white. I use whole wheat pasta, brown rice, quinoa, sweet potatoes and multigrain breads. I try to eat my carbs early in the day.
#9- If I want to have a drink, I cut down on the beers and drink more red wine. I always have a glass of water with my wine, makes the glass last longer!
#10- I am not a coffee drinker but I drink unsweetened ice tea and water. I do sweeten with STEVIA.
#11- Just keep in mind that you want your foods to come from fruits, vegetables, lean protein, good carbs and healthy fats. I only have 2 fruits a day since they have alot of sugar. I usually eat 1 c of strawberries with my shake and 1/2 banana or 1/2 c of blueberries with my oatmeal.
Ok, I will end with that!! I hope that helps and gives you a little insight to the changes that have helped me lose 25 pounds and keep it off for over a year now! I also work out to a Beachbody fitness program 5-6 days a week. It’s all about mixing it up!
PS.  My cheat food is Bertuccis rolls with olive oil!! Everyone needs a cheat food!!! I’m not a saint!!
